During 2020 we watched the joy of a wedding surrounded by your closest friends and family members be stripped away from so many of our Brides and Grooms. Like our couples, many of us in the event industry were also left defeated and uninspired. On one particularly defeating day, I found myself in my favorite place in the city - the St. Louis Art Museum. As I turned the corner to the French art collection and saw Claude Monet’s Waterlilies, it was like the first time I had ever laid eyes on it.
Music filled my ears. I felt my soul begin to dance.The soft purples, blush, muted greens, and blues painted a fresh joy over me. I felt light and airy. Revived. Just like the Earth rebirths itself during spring, I found a renewed passion for my calling as a storyteller of love with the medium of film. With that feeling of renewal as the inspiration for this “Lovers in Spring” styled shoot, Allyssa Elaine Events went to work creating the perfect blend of impressionism art and springtime, complete with a slight nod to Netflix’s famous new show, Bridgerton.
Our models, Marylyn and Andrew, were a couple who planned on getting married, but were forced to change their plans due to the pandemic. Instead of their dream wedding in Bali, the two took their vows in their cozy apartment via Webex from the St. Louis County Court House.
The historic Blue Bell Farm painted the most perfect scenic backdrop for Marylyn and Andrew to celebrate their recent nuptials. Beautiful flowers, herbs, and garden beds, spread across the property while cows grazed in the background. The venue specializes in farm to table catering, with menu ingredients sourced from the farm’s pastures.
The couple got ready in the Bridal Cottage of Blue Bell Farms. Uplifted Salon did a gorgeous updo, with a soft, and natural look for Marylyn. She wore Maudie (STYLE # 54705) by Willowby from White Traditions Bridal. The botanical embroidery and soft net tie back lended to the whimsical vibes. Marylyn wore a breathtaking pointed toe evening pump; a slip on mule silhouette finished with a sheer bow by Something Bleu. Andrew wore a classic black tux with swanky velvet shoes from The Black Tux.
As Claude Monet said, “I must have flowers, always, and always.” We put heavy emphasis on florals from Roses & Mint. Marylyn’s jaw dropping bouquet featured fragrant lilac, lavender clematis, bridal wreath spirea, butterfly ranunculus, and garden roses. Peonies and parrot tulips in soft coral were added for a touch of contrast. The ceremony location was framed with delphinium, fluffy hydrangea, lilac, and spirea in front of a willow tree. The couple chose to plant a lavender topiary together during a sweet unity ceremony.
The farmhouse reception table overlooked the gorgeous landscape with rolling hills and a pond in the background. The tablescape featured rimmed white china and glassware, gold plated flatware, and escort ribbons with calligraphy made by Susan Houseman Designs. Guests found their seats on a Victorian room divider with gorgeous florals at the base. Spoil Me Sweetly displayed three beautiful cakes during the reception. The lavender blackberry cake was just as delicious as it was beautiful. Goodies with Glam crafted beautiful sugar cookies decorated as cameos of the couple and their monogram as favors for guests.
To flow in the vein of the inspiration from impressionism painting, Matthew Miller Art provided a live painting of Andrew and Marylyn underneath the willow tree of the ceremony site. The delicate stationery was printed on hand torn paper with a lovely monogrammed crest, and paired with lavender envelopes with a gorgeous liner by Korynne + Company. Vow books with gold calligraphy from PARWANAPaper kept sweet vows written by the couple. Vintage accents tied the impressionism art and vintage vibes together.
The beauty of the day only served to remind us, no matter how dark the winter, spring is always coming. Underneath the frozen earth, the buds of new life are breaking out of seed, waiting to push through soil and bloom with brilliant colors. It is our hope this styled shoot brings you beauty no matter what season you’re in, and reminds you even if winter is long, or days are dark, or heart ache feels like a personal pandemic, the healing hues of spring are just around the corner.
